Emissions
Why am I required to have an Emissions Test?
Every model and make of vehicle has a designated emissions limit. This program is designed to test the smoggy discharge of your vehicle and make sure they are not exceeding these emission guidelines. It is also to identify early on the maintenance that is required to keep your vehicle within these limits. The ultimate goal of this program is to improve the air quality of our environments. Because of this, you should always have Tire Factory’s certified technicians perform this test for you to guarantee your vehicle investment is receiving the best care possible.
Why is my CHECK ENGINE/SERVICE ENGINE SOON light on?
Built into your vehicle is a second-generation diagnostics computer system, OBD II, which has been mandated by the Environmental Protection Agency to be places on all makes and models of vehicles. The objective is to more closely regulate vehicle emissions.
This program’s intent has been to set more detailed guidelines for technicians to help make more efficient the diagnostics process. The OBD II also comes equipped with what is called an MIL, a Malfunction Indicator Lamp, and that is what you see light up on your console when the program detects a problem. If this light ever appears on your console, be sure to bring your vehicle to Tire Factory right away so our technicians may help you avoid costly repairs down the road.
If you have not had any problems with the light appearing, still make sure to have your routine maintenance performed by us as designated by your owner’s manual. Our technicians will be able to check the DTC, the Diagnostic Trouble Code, the OBD II stores when it detects an abnormality in one of its observed circuits. Tire Factory trained technicians will access this information through the DLC, the Data Link Connector, will diagnose the problems, and make sure you and your vehicle are safe.
